After counseling for almost Ten years, of one thing I am certain — avoidance does not equal healing.

As a culture, we do everything we can to avoid pain in our lives: medicate, spend money, accumulate stuff, seek approval, drink, do drugs, avoid, blame, deflect, defend, isolate and run. Although God has chosen to heal some areas of people’s lives, I believe walking through the pain is part of the key to victory.

Jesus Christ knew what was to come when He headed for the cross. He cried out to His heavenly Father, “All things are possible unto Thee; take away this cup from Me: Nevertheless not what I will, but what Thou wilt.”

Jesus, the ultimate teacher, showed us how to face pain: Have faith that all things are possible with God, cry out to Him, express our desire and then submit to Him.

Jesus endured much pain on the way to Calvary. He was mocked, spit upon, beaten and finally killed. But that isn’t the end! He gained victory over death! He is risen!

How glorious that day is for all of us. Jesus paid the price for us. He walked through every trial, every pain UNTO VICTORY!

If you are a Christ follower, then you have been given the gift of the Holy Spirit. With His help, you can do all things through Christ, who strengthens you. How wonderful that we are not alone in our battles and our healing.

I have avoided and ran from many things in my 47 years; however, I know that God loves me the same at every inch of my journey.

He will always lead me back to where I ran from. When I face it, God gives the victory.

He will do the same for you. Don’t be afraid of what is hidden. It can’t hurt you any more than it already has. Walk through it and gain the victory.
